Caribbean Battery Recycling Limited
Caribbean Battery Recycling Limited carries on the business of collecting used batteries for the purpose of recycling. The company started its operations in 2005 and was registered as a limited liability company in 2006 with its base located at Patraj Trace, #2 El Socorro Extension Road, El Socorro, San Juan.
Our operation is the first of three stages in the recycling process which is as follows:
- Collection
- Manufacturing
- Purchase of Finished product 99.9% virgin lead
This first stage of collection being the recovery of discarded batteries is a critical element in the recycling process. Once the batteries are collected they are palletized, shrink wrapped, weighed, containerized and exported to a recycling mill in Arecibo, Puerto Rico where the batteries are destroyed. The Battery Recycling Company is the only battery recycler in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
More than 95% of every battery can be recycled. Nearly all of the lead containing battery components such as the posts, internal grids, oxides and other lead elements of the battery can be recycled through a series of steps.
The batteries are taken apart and drained of their battery acid through a hammering and grinding process. Through gravity, the heavier lead separates from the rest of the materials. The plastic is then separated and the acid is collected with water and further processed to recover additional lead particles. The lead and the oxide recuperated from the recycling process is smelt in a rotary furnace to obtain pure lead and the raw lead then gets melted in kettles to further remove impurities and purify the lead for distribution around the world.
The Battery Recycling Company export recycled refined lead as raw material to companies worldwide for use in automotive products, ballast for boats, batteries, fishing weights, wheel weight balances, munitions and lead radiation shields for medical and dental use. Additional battery byproducts, such as the acid from the recycling process and the plastic from battery casings, are sold to other companies for use in battery manufacturing.
