DEAD dogs are the latest things to be dumped in De Gannes Village, Siparia. Seepersad Chatoo, of 14 Alta Garcia Trace, said for the past five years people have been using an area with overgrown bushes as a dumping ground for old tyres, scrap iron and now dead dogs.

He is appealing for the authorities to intervene to deal with the problem which is a major health hazard.

“It looks like people come from all over to dump their rubbish here. Two days ago someone dropped dead dogs in a bag. It smelled stink and looked nasty,” Chatoo told Newsday. He said on numerous occasions he tried to block off the road to vehicles but could not as it is on private land. Last year, cattle belonging to a farmer in the area were stolen and slaughtered and their bodies dumped in the land. “We do not know who throwing the rubbish here,” Chatoo said. An official at the Siparia Regional Corporation said they have only received reports about dumping on the site and a report has been referred to their Disaster Management Unit and is being investigated.
