Littering problem a lack of discipline
Published: 24 Aug 2009
When one views littering throughout the country, it is easy to conclude that it has become an uncontrollable disease that affects all residents. We watch thousands of bottles, food containers and cups strewn along the roads. Let’s not forget old tyres, washing machines, stoves and refrigerators that clog the waterways. You will need thousands of litter wardens stationed 24/7 for 365 days to attempt to contain the situation.
The State should contact pharmaceutical giants Novartis and Pfizer to create a vaccine that will curtail the impulse to throw unwanted objects from the windows of moving vehicles. It is a local disease, because when we go to the US and Canada we hold our garbage until we reach an authorised disposal area.
In the foreign countries, we do not even stop along the highways to relieve an overloaded bladder; we hold tight until we reach a rest house. Why can’t we have that same discipline at home?
