A day before the official OAS Summit begins, young people concerned with how climate change will impact the future of Latin America and the Caribbean will gather on the UWI Campus to deliver hundreds of messages from youth around the region, asking their heads of state to make climate change a primary issue at the Summit. With the economic crisis predicted to take center stage at the Summit, young people want to ensure that leaders at the OAS make strong commitments to take action on climate change, an issue they see as being a far more serious threat to their future than the near-term threat of the economic crisis.

Earth Hour 2009
What began as a campaign to get Sydneysiders to turn their lights off, has grown to become one of the world’s biggest climate change initiatives. In 2009, at 8.30pm on March 28, people around the world will turn their lights off for one hour – Earth Hour. We’re aiming to reach one billion people, more than 1000 cities, all joining together in a global effort to show that its possible to take action on global warming.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC CONSULTATION

NEC is proposing to develop an industrial port in Claxton Bay (based on a new design concept), north of the existing TCL port and immediately south of the Savonetta Channel. The Environmental Management Authority has requested that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study be conducted by NEC for the revised design of the new industrial port development and that public consultations also be held as part of the NECs [sic] preparation of their EIA under CEC # 1761/2007.
